The key insight, made vivid via Sniffnoy's coin analogy: the Drake Equation multiplies point estimates to get a MEAN number of civilizations, but with parameters spanning many orders of magnitude of uncertainty the mean is meaningless -- you want the DISTRIBUTION, specifically P(few-to-none). SDO's distribution-aware Monte Carlo finds ~1/3 probability we're alone in the galaxy (vs the naive ~1-in-10^36), so there's no paradox -- there just aren't many aliens.
