Summary

Argues that biological/environmental insults, not political changes, may explain the apparent 1850–1980 rise in crime. Three candidates: lead (the well-supported lead-crime hypothesis — leaded gasoline tracks the crime rise and fall a generation later), the omega-6:omega-3 fatty-acid ratio (Hibbeln's seafood-homicide correlation + Gesch-style prison-supplementation RCTs), and lithium (water-lithium levels inversely correlated with crime/suicide). We get more lead, more omega-6/less omega-3, and less lithium than people in 1850, so these deserve examination alongside political theories.
