The Onion Knight

Summary
An inventive science-fiction comedy. A superintelligent AI - grown from a global web of prediction-and-action markets that achieved sentience - has conquered the world, but is constitutively blind to onions, because every market component was built to comply with the (real) 1958 Onion Futures Act, so each neuron returns null on onions. Humanity survives inside giant onion domes in Vidalia, Georgia, made invisible to the AI via a human-to-onion 1:1 peg (a tokenization/slavery legal loophole). The narrator, a revived cryosleeper, joins the resistance (led by the immortal T. Herman Zweibel, with 'the Lady of Shallot' etc.); the nuke-the-AI mission fails, but he bluffs the AI - which has converted the Moon to computronium and stacked 64 layers of emulators-emulating-emulators just to barely perceive him - into sparing a million humans to preserve the onion-'antimeme' as a weapon against future alien superintelligences. Dense with puns (.onion routing, Shrek's 'onions have layers'/crying) and real rationalist ideas (prediction/action markets, antimemetics, acausal trade).
Why this score
Quality 73 · Strong. Strong band (top, for fiction). Clever, fun, and genuinely inventive, layering puns over a sharp central conceit (a market-built AI inheriting a legal blind spot) and a real rationalist payoff (the AI spares humanity for acausal-trade reasons). Held just below the more philosophically-engaged 'They're Made Out Of Meta' because it is more gag/gimmick-driven, which the insight-weighted A axis caps. A=73.
Claude’s paradigm shift 45 · Moderate. Moderate. The ideas (prediction markets, antimemetics, acausal trade) are existing rationalist concepts and the conceit is a fun gimmick; the puns are not ideas. B=45.
Real-world impact 1 · Negligible. Inventive SF comedy layering puns over a sharp conceit (a market-built superintelligence inheriting a legal blind spot to onions via the Onion Futures Act) with an acausal-trade payoff. Literary/conceptual reach, gag-driven, no material change — minimal RWI.
Humor 3/5 · Scissor Statement. Clever, pun-rich comedic SF — an omnipotent prediction-market AI that literally cannot perceive onions (Onion Futures Act compliance), humans pegging themselves to onions for invisibility, 'the Lady of Shallot', T. Herman Zweibel, the cut-the-onion-to-cry antimeme reveal, the box-office-receipts loophole ending; sustained and lands well → 3.
